Where a frantic Friday doesn't turn into a disaster

What I usually hang out with on a Friday
when home alone. Not tonight baby!
This week has been nuts as work. New systems going online, lots of meetings and too many phone calls. Today was to be an early start and a late finish with me coming home to an empty house. That can be a recipe for disaster. I can usually find an innocent reason to stop at the supermarket on the way home and then end up at the beginning of a night long binge. Not this Friday!

I went for a walk at lunch time while the weather was good and my lunch was a good serving of my homemade low fat chilli with extra cannelloni beans (instead of my usual salad) that kept the hunger away until 7.30pm. I drank heaps of water even though I was busy and am feeling super in control right now.  Have tracked and exercised every day this week. Getting the groove back baby! I love proving to myself that a bad work day doesn't have to translate to a bad food day.

Shifting focus and weight!

I said last week that I was shifting focus to exercise and it seems to have paid off. A whole 1 kg (2.2 pound) loss this week. I feel like the Biggest Loser - awesome.

Fitness stats:
Week 1: 1,247 calories in 215 minutes
Week 2: 3,746 calories in 675 minutes (blow it out of the water baby!)

I also made a wee breakthrough on the food addiction side of things. D has been in control of my cash for some time now as I know I can't be trusted to not buy crap food. I 'needed' the credit card to buy veges and I thought I was going to get a massage on Saturday so begged it off D while he was at work. However my internal dialog started before I even got in the car. Just get a small packet of chippies. Just a small peanut slab. Just one bagel instead of a bag...

I ended up not going at all. I knew I'd blow my plan and be even more angry with myself than usual. And I'm so glad I did - a whole kg loss is SO worth it! Have a great week everyone :)

Choosing my weight loss journey

I came across a blog today that made me really sad and also super determined at the same time. It’s not one I follow, and I won’t name it here but it was about a wonderful woman and her weight loss journey over the past 10 years. There were methodically captioned photos for this entire journey which detailed her weight going from 285 pounds to 165 pounds to 235, to 156, to 250 and so on. She was smiling in every photo and I can only commend her determination to lose that weight again and again and again without giving up (she’s currently in what she calls a ‘skinny’ phase). Wow.  I so don’t want to be that person.

It made me realise that I am not losing weight this time for a particular event and then letting go again. I’m doing this to be the healthiest I can be. Full stop. Yes, I’ll have small targets to get me motivated but like so many of you out there I’m not restricting the types of foods I eat – just the amount of calories. I need to be able to live this life for a long time yet. There will still be many chocolate covered pretzels in my future – I just won’t use them as an excuse to stop caring about myself next time.

TGIM - Thank goodness for Monday

Yep, TGIM. There's not even an undertone of sarcasm with this one. Sunday saw me on a go slow due to back pain, crummy weather and the excuse of D being home to watch TV with. The cupboards were bare and neither of us could be motivated to do grocery shopping so did a quick snack run instead. I know I verbally said (at least twice) "I don't want food to cheer me up - you know I have a problem with it!", and even sat in the car while D went inside. And then he came out with corn chips and marshmallow Santa's legs...my face lit up like a Christmas tree. Pathetic.

But it did the trick - funk gone, all calories accounted for and today is a 'make up' day. So what makes this such a good Monday? Back pain mostly gone, I'm in charge of the calories...and a quickie before work helped too...must do that more often!
